listen to nevermind. or in utero.
Oh yeah? have you seen the making of Nevermind on DVD? Lets take for example the song "Drain you", that has 5 seperate guitar tracks. 2 played through a bassman amp, 2 through a mesa boogie, and then just a cheapy "grunge" pedal D.I. to the board. and thats just for the distortion. Not to mention he also used the fender twin for the clean as well as all the others. So the recording are not a replica of any one single Humbucker sound, since the amps have alot to do with tone as well. ITs a good DVD it has Butch Vig showing you it all.

they did one for dark side of the moon. they've been on tv here. i missed the nevermind one.
I bet that was cool since they were all about the recording parts of their albums and were ahead of their time with whole panning/fx thing.

The dvd's are called "classic albums" and should be titled according to the artists album that was a classic I suppose...http://www.eaglerockent.com
THe nirvana nevermind DVD i watched looked like the CD.
that's a good one. my wife got it for me for xmas last year. butch vig has the whole record broken out to a board and gives some great insights on how they got the sounds and performances. there's also some really cool stories from dave grohl.
