So, Antiquity vs antiquity II vs hot vs qp

I want something with decent output that wont sound terrible overdriven, but I also want to preserve that beautiful surf sound. I would like to have a Television or Gang of Four kind of sound with some Smiths and Soft Boys thrown in there. Would I need something really high output for MBV and Sonic Youth type sounds? Blues isn't terribly important to me, though being able to play the occasional zep riff wouldn't be a bad thing.

I've listened to the Hots and Quarter pounds, I like how the hots sound on the bridge, but don't know what I think about QPs for the neck. Wouldn't the extremely high output cause the Jag to lose something special with that 50k pot, and isnt that pot what gives the neck circuit its magic?

I've seen several people mention that they like Antiquity pups, but I've noticed theres antiquity and antiquity II. What's the difference? I saw 1 review for the antiquity on Harmony Central, and none for the Ant II. Their specs on the SD site seem identical...

I honestly don't know a whole lot about pickups since I've always just used stock on whatever guitars I've played. I'm thinking Hot for the bridge and maybe an antiquity for the neck since they seem popular. Would this setup give me close to what I want?

Also, how good or bad would brand new american reissue jag pickups be?

As far as I can tell the premise of it is that the Antiquity 1 is made to be like a first edition '62 Jag pickup. the Antiquity 2s are modelled after more like '64 through to CBS late '60s Jags, they're ever so slightly hotter and have grey flatwork instead of black (that's a purely cosmetic difference just for historical accuracy).

I think all of SD's Antiquities are staggeringly good but I have no experience with the QPs etc, so for those you'd have to wait for someone else's response. It's likely though that that'll be what you're after if you want to be able to get a heavy sound out of your Jag, at least in the bridge anyway.

I have a QP in my cij jag's bridge position and I really love it. I found the stock bridge pu too trebly and harsh : the QP gives a extra output for a great overdriven or distorted sound with more midrange frequency, but it stays a jag's sound when played clean. For the neck position, I didn't change the stock pu as I found it quite nice.

I think the Antiquity II might be a great choice too

I have a QP in my sunburst CIJ, it is the hottest Jaguar pickup available. Having said that the Antiquities do handle overdrive quite well as they are more mellow and smoother sounding than stock CIJ pups.

just got my CIJ Jaguar wired with SD Quarter pounds, both neck and bridge..

I must say i'm glad i chose them Quarter pounds. It gives the Jag more midrange.. and sustain a lil bit better.

Can you put the pickup claws on the quarter pounders? It says in the description that it doesn't use a cover.

Everyone i know that uses them puts the jag cover and claw back on.

yup agreed, had mine kept intact together with the QPs.

does keeping the claw on the QPs eliminate a lot of the hum? Do they have a lot of hum to begin with? I'm using the vintage vibe jag p-90s which I like a lot, but there is a lot of hum so I was thinking of trying something new.

The 'Claw' supposed to shield the pickup from stuff like RF, and some people argue it changes the shape of the pickups magnetic field thus changing the sound.

I've never noticed any dramatic change with or without it but keep it on coz it looks good.

Do the QP have bigger pole pieces? and if so they dont stick through the stock pickup cover, do they.? anyone have a picture??
