Does anyone know of a cheap (150$ USD) Mustang knockoff?

I couldn't get my hands on a Lady Luck "The Master", even after speaking to the President of the company (it was basically a one-woman operation, and they shut down).

But yeah, I need a guitar with single coils without having to install a coil tap...

why don’t you try to get your hands on a 2nd hand squire duo-sonic?

seems like the best choice, and with some patience ...

I'd say go for a Fender/Squier Duo. I've got one & they really are decent little guitars for how cheap you can get them. Me & my brother have beat the poo out of mine for the last 12 years & its still going strong, its ugly but it works.

Check ebay, they come up pretty often so you prob won't have to have too much of that thing......what do they call it?.....patience? What's that? Anyway I've got to, things to do people to see

Slow and steady wins the race. Anything worth having is worth waiting for. Save, save, save and save... and when you can, buy yourself a proper Mustang. Or do what I did, and just build one.

I do have a Squier Bronco body...

And this thread should be "Duo Sonic Knockoffs" I don't need the whammy bar :) .

Guitars like this one just piss me right off. The designer/builder OBVIOUSLY has no sense of adventure or imagination, so I have to wonder why they even bothered. People who build crappy knock-offs should be dragged out into the street and shot in the face with a shotgun. :-mad

rant over.

I'm *probably* gonna end up with a Squier 51, just because I figure I can get one cheap (my area is over run with them on Craigslist) and I can tinker with it... Plus, it has a coil tap, so I can get my 1337 single coil sounds AND humbucker sounds... Thus got wire it to use a normal pickup switch...

Yeah, I'd either save and buy a real one or build your own when it comes to Mustang types. And a '51 sounds like a good idea, if it's on the cards...

I'm just looking for a cheap tinkerers single-coil guitar... I figured a Mustang shape might be cool.

So, I know a few people here have 51s... I need pics, downsides, and what you've done to them, so I know what I'm up against... :)

Did someone say Mustang Knockoffs?

I got some pics and such that I found in vintage guitar catalogs on vintaxe. I'm surprised there's been so many variants, copies, clones, and Mustang influenced designs, and most of these were made in the Super Strat Locking Trem loving 80's of all time periods!

In the early 1980's, surprisingly, ESP was making MUSTANG KITS! Something I kinda wish ESP would go back into doing.

Posted Image
1981 Fernandez RMT-50 - A japanese outright copy of a 1964 Fender Mustang

Posted Image
Cort E200 (far left) - More of a Duo-Sonic knockoff, but it takes a lot of cues from the Mustang/Duo looks wise. This was a very very very cheap guitar in the 80's.

Posted Image
Here's a cool one, a 1973 Fresher FMT-25 Mustang copy with a Jaguar/Jazzmaster style vibrato and a Tune-O-Matic....yes, this was an actual production instrument!

Posted Image
1982 ESP Char Model Navigator Series Guitar - Far Left, Mustang style-ish thing with Strat Vibrato and 3-way switch.

Posted Image
1983 Orion MT-26 - A rougher copy of the Fender Mustang, I think I might have played one of these a few years back, and I kind of liked the feel and sound, it was a bit like a Jag-Stang the way it felt.

Okay... I found a guy in my area. Stock 51, extra pickguard (awesome), gigbag, he probably still has the box it came in... 150$... Should I do it?

I don't know about the one in the first post--it's not quite the right shape and the combination of colours makes me feel queasy.

Seems like a fair price. If I had $150 & I could get my hands on one I'd buy it but those are 2 BIG if :)

If you get it throw up some pics!

Talking about 51's...

Pros - sound great, look cool, great platform for mods, coil-tap, lightweight body

Cons - Some people find the neck profile to be chuncky (it's NOT a tele neck), no vibrato, cheap tuners.

That said, I love mine to death :-)
my stuff:
2009 Affinity Telecaster (Esquire'd)
2007 Jagmaster (modded)
1999 Affinity Stratocaster (w/ comp stripe)
2008 Deluxe Strat (sweet geet)

Drive CD-200R
Fender Mini Tone-Master

Livingstone E10 MT
Behringer UC200

Seeings as you know about the neck of the '51. Do you know if it will fit on a MIM Duo Sonic? There's one up on eBay and it got me thinking. I love fat chunkey necks but didn't want to go for it if it wont fit in the pocket. I'm putting a new bridge on the body already so that's not a big deal I just wanted to know if it will fit in the pocket.
