I'm thinking of getting one. But I don't know anybody who actually PLAYS one. I know some of them are really crummy, but from what I understand some of them are quite nice too. Any thoughts?
Here's my show-offy gear list:

Guild S-100, Peavey Bandit 65, Farfisa VIP-233 organ, Turkish Oud, Roma Upright bass, Gretsch G3713 acoustic, and lots of other little expensive things...

Teiscos are great guitars. You just gotta make sure you buy the right one. I bought mine on ebay and when it got here the neck was severely warped and i found out i overpayed for it...

so make sure you:

1.Do your research
2.Give it a test play if at all possible

Im currently looking for another one to replace the piece of crap i bought.

Im thinking of an SG-ish copy :)

Thanks fellas, this seems to be a forum with a little bit better taste than some of the other guitar forums I've ventured onto before, if you know what I mean...

Well, I hear that basically there were really good models, and there were really bad models. Like the Spectrums and the K series are supposed to be well built (and are more rare and expensive), while there seems to always be a hundred crummy ones on Ebay. Once I saw a K-3L repainted in Seafoam Green go for like $260. I was so mad that I was strapped for cash at the time.

Speaking of SG copies I'm still rocking the Guild S-100 I bought when I was 16. (When I wanted to be the Melvins.)

guitars like that are hit or miss, especially the ones without truss rods... i've got two guitars which fall into the mid 1900's general store category, both of which are great, but they have truss rods... always play those type of guitars before buying. (unless you are loaded, or its 5 bucks)

Heh heh heh, I bought a Danelectro once, and woke up going "Why the hell did I buy that?"

haha i wouldnt mind having a danelectro. and im a closet longhorn fan. haha theyre really bizarre and generally unlikeable but i want one.

update: i found out that the pickups on my norma are worth more than the actual guitar all together. thats sad.

Yup, gold foil transducers are fairly rare, sound great, and are worth a pretty penny.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Teiscos (also called: Kinston, Kent, Kimberly, Norma, Audition, Top 20, DECCA, Sekova, etc.), but you should ALWAYS play before you buy, and get a model with a truss-rod. Truss-rods ARE necessary!
