hello, been a while since I've posted up here, but I thought you guys could give me some ideas...

I've got about 500-600 canadian right now, and I'm looking to buy a guitar. I'm just wondering if anybody here would have any recomended models or brands I should be looking at.

I've currently got a JS, and my amp is a F-50 mesa boogie head with 1X12 cab.

any ideas, thoughts, helpful advice would be appreciated...

Well in that price range:
- MIM/CIJ Fenders
- A low end Gibson
- Top of the range Epiphone

All quality guitars, just try a few first

Don't highway 1 strats not have the 2nd and 4th pickup positions?

the vintage strats only had 3-way but you can still balance it inbetween to get those dual pickup sounds. or get a new 5-way switch because they're really cheap.

the highway 1 strats are the best strat in that price range, definately. i reccomend the highway 1 teles too. they have nitro finishes, some very pretty colours, and the perfect mix of vintage and modern spec. i think they're really comfortable.

Right now (after checking out a bunch of guitars) I'm leaning towards the mex strat with a maple neck. Not sure on the colour, except that I don't want something metalic.

alright its done (hurray!).

I got a mex strat with a white finish and a maple fretboard. I love it, and the fact that it was a mere $500 (original goal for spending) only sweetens the deal. As of yet I'm liking the stock pups, though that may change as time goes on.

Wait, you bought an MIM strat for $500? Is that a '50s / '60s reissue, or are guitars more expensive up there? MIM strats can be had for $250 US...

price for a brand new mex standard strat is 500$ up here, and our dollar is now only 10 cents or less off the american dollar.
