i just want to get a general idea of how long alot of you have been plaing, what you have owned, what you play and what you listen to.
answer whatever you like and however you like, a sort of... unbalance, unbiased pole.
i, personally have been playing for 12 years, i have owned over 160 guitars, everything from high end gibsons, high end fenders, and custom guitars.
currently i have three main guitars, a teleguar that i built from scratch about 7 years ago, my 96 jagstang(heavily modded} and an 83 fender tele that is also heavily modified.
I listen to everything from black metal to old country like hank sr. and betsy cline.
im currently in 4 bands. one is a scumcore punk band, one is a hard rock band, one is a country band where i play the mandolin, and another is an expierimental group.

I started playing bass in junior high around '94 or '95. I picked up guitar around then too. I used to take lessons in junior high and high school. I only ended up learning basic chords. I tend to play by ear or read sheet music. I have been in two bands. One in junior high that only lasted about a year and one in college that lasted less than that. I like rock most of the time, but also enjoy blues and jazz. My guitars are in my sig. I just got a Mustang body that I am trying to decide how to assemble. I wish I was in a band now. I practice more often and I feel more productive will all my guitars.

I used to play many moons ago.

i like all the music i liked maybe 4 years ago? Or before. anything new after that has to be pretty exceptional for me to take notice. Anything other just causes me to get angry and lament why can't music be original? but if it is original i'll probably not like it because i'm to old and scared of new things.

I own a couple of cheap strats.. a modded jagstang.. a westbury thing. My pride and joy is a 1977 strat; White with black pick guard and FAT 70's headstock. sex in a six string right there for me...

I should sell my other guitars really. Only ever play the strat.

Ive been teaching myself for the past two years

The first guitar I got was an Ibanez Artcore (cant remember the model number) But it was a cherry red with bone colored binding.
Traded that in for an Ibanez RG350M (Dont ask about the logic in that, the RG was a super cool yellow that i fell in love with)
Then I traded that in for my Mustang, and I plan on keeping it for the rest of my life.
But soon, Im trying to get my hands on the J Mascis Jazzy, and a Modern player Jaguar with MP90's

I mainly listen to hardcore punk, 90s alt, ska and ska-punk, a bit of death metal here and there, and lately the blues lol.

not in a band yet, but when i feel ive gotten good enough to be at that point id love to start one.

Would you be able to post a picture of your Teleguar? Sounds interesting.

I've been playing since I was 12-13ish (1996), so that'd be 16-17 years.

Other instruments
Trumpet - 4-5 years, quit in 2001 after I left high school
Bass - 13 years seriously, same as guitar in general
Synth - 13 years

Funny thing is over the holiday season, someone brought me a Pedal Steel guitar to fix up (a ShoBud made Fender Single Student 10), It's got a 10 string Jazzmaster style pickup in it. I'm already picking up on that now...albeit not in the normal " country" style.

I was really interested in that MP Jag with P90's too, but I played one at Guitar Center and realized I would invest too much money in it in the long run. I didn't care for the P90's in it, they were okay. Also, the guitar was horribly setup out of the box it seemed so that may have turned me off a bit more than just the pickups. I'm sure it would have been a lot better set up properly.

I got my first guitar when I was 14; a Squier Affinity Strat. Being 14, I really just wanted to go get high and skateboard so it didn't last long and I don't even exactly recall what happened to that guitar, but I didn't sell it so it's probably somewhere. My parents tryed to get me back into it when I was 16 and bought me a Gibson Les Paul that I never played at all. That is where I officially discovered that Les Pauls were not for me. I could not play the thing. So we ended up selling or returning that, I can't remember.

In 2008, at 18, I went to my local music store and bought a brand new Epiphone Dot Studio, a Fender Champion 600, and a Yamaha LL6 acoustic. I ended up selling the Epiphone but for some reason I kept the Fender Champ even though I didn't own an electric. From 2008 to 2010, I played the Yamaha here and there. In 2010, I bought my Jag-Stang on Craigslist for $300. It was in mint condition and I fell in love with it. From Late 2010 to now, I have played me Jag-Stang everyday for at least 2 hours. I would say that I have been playing guitar officially for two to two and half years. This Christmas, I got my second electric guitar, a Telecaster compiled of random USA parts and built to 1967 specs. So far, I love it; tonal wise, feel, and looks so I hope its a keeper. I have invested so much money in guitar stuff now I have no intentions of ever stopping as it is all I think about. I'm sure you guys suffer from the same fate.

Dammit, I was hoping that Jag would be a huge bang for the buck too seeing as how it has Fender on the headstock and not Squier. Its had very mixed reviews on all the sites though which kind of surprised me but hey, Fender cant always make a perfect guitar. And you know what, I always HATED Gibson for some reason. Even when I didnt play guitar I would look at Gibsons or Fenders and I just always gravitated toward the Fender brand, something about Gibson guitars just turn me right off. I think theyre just too drawn out and kind of exaggerated, and the necks arent too comfortable for my hands.

But I too, am suffering from guitar obsession too. All I think about besides skateboarding is what else I can possibly do to my Mustang to make it the most unique Mustang on the planet. Ive been playing for around 1 1/2 maybe two years I cant exactly remember, and Ive probably dropped over 3 grand with everything I bought in the past up until now. But I love it, Its mind stimulating and brings out my creativity when Im working on the guitar or trying to come up with new ideas for it, but when I get some better cash flow it wont take as long. Oh and I seen that post with your Tele, thing is badass.
