Nirvana, the trio comprised of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, hailed originally from a coastal fishing town in Washington and rose to become one of the most influential rock bands in history with irreverence, intense honesty and an overriding passion. The cultural shift Nirvana’s Nevermind initiated was felt instantly on release -- and the profundity and depth of that shift becomes even more apparent when seen through the prism of the two decades of art and music created in its wake. Released in September of 1991, Nirvana’s Nevermind garnered near-unanimous praise and rose within a few months to the No. 1 slot on Billboard’s U.S. sales chart. Nevermind was propelled to No. 1 across the globe by their young fans worldwide that identified with the band and embraced their anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and its landmark music video. Since then, it has sold more than 30 million albums. Nirvana changed the course of popular music forever and remains an inspiration to those who have followed. Today, Universal Music Enterprises is pleased to announce the 4-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition of Nirvana’s Nevermind available September 19, 2011, in the U.K. and September 20, 2011, in North America. The CDs will include previously unreleased recordings, rarities, b-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes, rare live recordings and an unreleased concert in its entirety on DVD. The 20th anniversary of Nirvana will be marked throughout the year, with various events and releases

Can't wait for this!!

I really hope it is the paramount show! Its a good year,I scored the repressing of Homoaning on Vinyl,a Blue JagStang, and get to buy a new Nirvana box set. Its perfect actually cause my ex-wife stole my copy of Nevermind,so I need a new one. Bummer was that it was the first CD I ever bought....but whatever.

Ya but technically that is not Nirvana, and DGC/Universal does not own the rights to it. I have a copy of the fecal matter demo locked away in my safe. I grew up in aberdeen and my mom was friends with Kurts mom before Nirvana went big and she moved away,my grandma used to go to Krists moms beauty shop. My mom was also friends with one of Dale crovers exgirlfriends, and she is the one who got a copy of the demo for me from him.Buzz Osborne from the melvins mom was my moms 3rd. grade teacher, its a really small town.Thats why ive always felt a really strong connection to Nirvana,I know where they came from. To make it out of aberdeen is a feat in itself, the town usually traps people.

It would be nice if they could dig up the #### that Kurt was meant to do with Mark Lanegan too. I don't remember whether they recorded any of that project or not, but it would be sick to hear that on this as well. If I get a job soon then I plan to buy this.

Cobang was a terrible guitarist.
Stop trying to be like him.

They only ever recorded a few leadbelly songs,I dont think they ever wrote anything together.

Ive never heard butterfly,or ivy league. Are you sure this was with Kurt,or just the stuff Dave and Krist were doing in those last sessions?

I wasn't suggesting they'd release that I just wanted to know if you've heard it and/or like it.

The project kurt was working on towards the end was a leadbelly tribute album. I know he asked greg sage to do it with him.

On another note...

you probably know this already but if you facebook, spin is giving away a tribute album today at their facebook. I'm listening to it and i would rather not comment but let you hear it yourself and in a few days after 5 or so listens i'll comment.

Thanks

OK i #### lied. i am amazed at the song stay away covered by Charles Bradley and the menehan street band. I never heard of them, but to take a nirvana song and make it sound like James Brown being backed by the black keys...wtf it's great! I can't believe i'm saying this. It is amazing. You all probably going to hate it. Brilliant out of the box approach, bravo! ftw

Whoever the midnight juggernauts are, they ####ed the song up on a level that may ruin the entire album. It's all pretty much the opposite of what i expected and i am far from furious with it except for that one. Blasphemy! If you were to somehow contract testicular cancer, i wouldn't be sad! what were you thinking?

I'm thinking of taking the song they ruined and doing it old school delta with a modern twist. All the album is missing is a bluesy cover. #### it, I'm going to do it.

Go download it, it's free and i want other opinions.

I agree completely. The vaselines and the meat puppets get a pass. I enjoyed theirs, but if i didn't, Kurt loved them and he would have insisted they be on there. I wish they would have used the melvins version of teen spirit with Leaf. I have played teen spirit for friends on an acoustic to show them why it wouldn't work on unplugged and i think now, after hearing the meat puppets do it, it worked better than i thought. I have always wanted to do something in the way acapella. I feel that the melody is strong and needs no accompaniment. Jeff and the brotherhood nailed it. The vaselines version of lithium is so dark with the church organs and i love it. I have been in a dark church organ phase. I thought polly had a weird twist also. The charles bradley song has me speechless. You hated it right? it was like cee-lo did it or something. The level of balls and creativity to do a song that way blows my mind and i am one of the bigger nirvana fans on the board. I respect creativity in music period so i was ok with it.

Thanks for listening to it! Glad to hear your opinions.
