Second this, if you like his particular taste I would go for one of his signature models. I also second the Blacktop Jaguar idea if you can't afford the Cobain Jag. The Super Distortion in the Cobain Jag would be perfectly able to achieve the tones you are looking for, and you could also throw a Super Distortion in the Blacktop Jag if you go for that. You can also throw a Super Distortion in the Mustang, so really, it's up to you. Both will achieve the tone you after as long as it is routed for humb####er.
EDIT:: I just noticed you said you are able to purchase either of the two signature models. In my opinion, the Jaguar would be better suited for the tone you are after. Hope this helps.
