so I was looking at some more reasonably priced effects to add to my ever growing pedal board, and I was looking for a bit of input/knowledge on a few pedals cause I have no experience with any of them. Just for preference, I generally play experimental genres I guess you might say, noise rock, post rock, shoegazing, etc.
I read on here and a couple other places that the earlier boss PS series pedals can be good for the whole shoegaze sound and upon looking up the demos, this does seem to be the case.. I've heard that the PS-3 might work a bit better for it but I do not have the pleasure of trying one out cause none of the shops have any used ones in and I don't have a credit card. But one shop has an old PS-2 for sale used so I was thinking of trying one out. Also, there has to be 5 different PS-5's for sale used between two of the shops here, so I was thinking of trying one out. But is one typically better than the other for this style?? also, wouldn't I kind of have to watch out for the PS-2?? The one demo I watched, the pitch shifting was all out of tune and some claimed to have the same issue with theirs.
Also, i'm looking at some distortions and overdrives too.. I saw that the one shop has a pro co rat and a digitech hardwire valve distortion used. I feel like the rat would suit me a bit more, but funny enough I generally would rather have a wider sound palette which the valve distortion probably does. Also the VD is ironically $20 cheaper. I'm really half and half on this one, they both sound like decent pedals from the demos i've heard so i'm just looking for general input between the two on which might be better for my style.
