My guitar was rebuilt before I got it and I want to know what caps I have...

little orange circles like pills, "20 32" in black on them.

Thanks!
Doug

Ceramic capacitor.

Thanks, HNB. I take it these are not "Orangs Drops". Can you...or anyone... tell who makes 'em and describe their performance with P90s?

Cheers,
Doug

Cheers,

if you had a picture of them we could tell you more about what type they are. "orange drops" do come in small circular ones as well but usually theyre not. I don't really notice performance variances with pickups. they function more with the tone control which can effect the pickups.

Thanks, R1. That rules out Orange Drops. The tones of this guitar are really good, especially through my dirty pawnshop Danelectro HT 50. I just want to know if what I have is supposed to be decent quality. If it's junk, then wow does this axe have some undiscovered potential!

Cheers,
Doug

think it depends on the brand as well, those are the sprague drop caps. as far as the potential, some say that the brand and all that makes a huge difference, i dont really notice it. i have orange drops in 2 of my guitars and don't really notice much a difference compared to what came in them.

I think cap styles and makers is snake oil. It is like pots and resistors. They just do what they do. :) People who can hear a difference in manufacturers have better ears than me. I have used ceramic, oil and paper, orange drops, etc, they all have worked fine for me. :) The value of the cap seems to make more difference than what it is made of or who made it.

Agreed, and thats really only if you mess with the tone knob anyway. i leave it full open so the cap doesn't really do anything anyway.
