Squier Jaguar Static Noise

Today, my new Squier VM Jaguar started making a static-y noise. It's buzzes erratically when I'm not playing and buzzes constantly while a note is played. Notes come through fine, but the accompanying static makes playing it unbearable. This stops entirely when I touch the metal plates on the guitar, but it does NOT stop when I touch the strings. Perhaps a grounding problem- Any thoughts?

definity a grounding issue, make sure that the metal plates are grounded to the brigde. you can do this a few different ways, just by simply soldiering or, taking a high e-string and running it from the control plate to the bridge thimble, it will be hardley noticeable and will ground the entire instrument properly

Thank you, the e string method worked great. Maybe I'll look into soldering it later. It's my first jag and I'm loving it!

Before doing anything too drastic try plugging your amp into some other outlets. Sometimes outlets aren't properly wired with a "true" 3rd prong ground. The outlets with a floating ground basically turn your guitar into an antenna.
