Pickup Selector Switching Mod

Hi,
There are 2 three position switches on my Fender Mustang(or Jag-Stang). I found out that they are On-Off-Phase. I also found out that phase lowers the frequency on the guitar single so it sounds really brittle and single coily. There is a volume control and tone knob. Mustangs have two single coils. I want to find new ways to wire the guitars. I don't like the phase setting at all and I would like to get rid of it.
Thanks...

NOTE: Mustangs have 2 single coils and Jag-Stangs have 1 single coil and 1 humbucker. Even though the pickup configuration is different they both are wired exactly the same.

Anyway, it is crazy that there are 9 possible switching combinations, and only 4 different sounds (plus both off). If you want to preserve the original appearance, I'd recommend changing one of the 3-way switches to work as a pickup selector, and use the other switch to give you:

  • control bypass (ie full volume and tone)
  • volume control only
  • volume + tone control (normal)
