Fender Jag-Stang Review

Author: 96jagstang

Yesterday I purchased a 1996 Fiesta Red Jag-Stang off of Craigslist for $425 with a hard shell case. Until that point I had never played a Fender and I noticed how much of a difference it was to my Jackson Kelly.

The finish on the guitar is wonderful and bright considering its age, but there are a lot of chips and dings from years of gigs and practices. I purchased the Jag-Stang in hopes to strip it all down to plain wood and fill in the dents with Bondo then repaint it Sonic Blue and replace the white pearl pickguard with a red tortoise shell pickguard (to resemble Kurt's Mustang).

I know everybody rips on the cheap quality of the pickups but I actually like the buzzy sound they emit because it adds to the grungy sound of it. I don't know what is wrong with my high E string but it sits considerably lower than the rest.I play mine simply through a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal to keep it simple and as similar to Kurt's tone.

Pros & Cons:
(+)The short, fast neck allows for a much different feel to any guitar player
(+)Wonderful range of tones through the switches
(+)Beautiful finish
(+)The Mustang's floating Tremolo
(+)Easy tuning
(-)A little unbalanced (but it adds to the cool quirky look of it)
(-)A little awkward to sit with
