Hey,
I recently bought a used 2022 Fender Jag-Stang and switched it to .011s. I had it set up at a local shop, but I started to think the tech didn’t really understand the Jag-Stang, because he set the bridge so low. So I started trying to fix it myself !
Here’s what’s going on:
• With the shop setup, the bridge was set very low.
• I also had an issue where the high E string would pop out / slip off the bridge saddle , which made me question the setup from the start.
• When I raised the bridge to a more reasonable height, I ended up with:
• higher action,
• the tremolo arm sitting very close to the pickguard (barely any room to use it),
• and the string break angle behind the bridge looking way too shallow (almost flat).
To fix the action, I added a 0.5 mm neck shim, and the action is now good.
But the trem arm is still sitting too low/too close to the body, and the break angle still doesn’t look “right” compared to other Jag-Stangs I’ve seen.
One more clue: if I loosen the strings a bit, the tailpiece angle improves and the arm gets more clearance — which makes me suspect the trem springs might be too weak/tired (or just not strong enough for .011s).
So I’m thinking about replacing the Mustang/Jag-Stang trem springs.
Has anyone here run into the same issue on a newer (2020s) Jag-Stang? If so, what ended up fixing it for you? Spring replacement? Different bridge height approach? Anything else I should check?
Thanks a lot!
