My sister was gifted a brand-new Fender Mustang for Christmas of 1964. It was purchased by my father at a local music store in Lakewood, CA. I would swear to this day that this brand-new Mustang was in Fiesta Red, not Dakota Red.
Everything that I have read about the first year Mustangs states that they came only in Red, White, or Blue, and that custom colors for the Mustang were not available from Fender. Sadly, the guitar is long gone as it was sold a few years later. I always referred to the color as "Flamingo Pink", before I learned the official Fiesta Red color. I remember some Fords, Mercury's, and Lincolns available in that same color back in the day. Just checking in to see anyone has ever seen an early Mustang in a factory custom color.
