I am interested in upgrading my amp to something tube-based. Like most other guitarists, I would like to get a good balance of great cleans and nice distortion when desired.
So far my research has lead to the Fender Twin Reverb, and more specifically the clean tones it produces; it seems almost unparalleled in this area. The aspect I am most concerned about then, is the lack of overdrive/distortion built in. I know, I know, pedals help to achieve distortion...but even still, I have heard the Twin Reverb doesnt sound nearly as good dirty thru pedals (Is this an issue of selecting better pedals?)
Furthermore, would a comparably priced Marshall ($1000 - $1500 USD) be a better value, since most have the overdrive built in? I figure the Twin probably beats most comparable Marshalls in the cleans, but the Marshall may hand it to the Fender in regards to distortion. Any advice?
