My Jagstang....does everything look in order?

First off great site! I just got my Jagstang (I traded a piece of Daniel Johnston art for it) ironic the guy who created the Jagstang also was a HUGE Daniel Johnston fan! Kurt wore a DJ shirt at the VMA's. Well I am bigger DJ fan then Kurt fan but still a fan nonetheless. Well I had a piece of DJ art work and made a trade for my "Stang"

I took a few pics and am gonna post them so you seasoned Jagstang owners can tell me if it looks in order....I need a whammy bar!

Just wanting to know if all the things are where they are supposed to be and not turned around etc.

HAHA no I just dont know anything about guitars and I was wanting to make sure it was like its supposed to be nothing altered or anything!

What kind of strings should a beginner start with?

cool, nice guitar to start with! Strings, get super slinky 10s, 9s would be too loose on the JS. good luck!

9's work just fine on a Jag-Stang, and are really easy to play. There's not nearly as much buzz as people complain of.

I vote for 11's, but put whatever you want on it.

Well this is actually my second guitar but yeah I just "seriously" started to play. My first guitar is a B.C. Rich "Virgin". I wanted to get a guitar to kind of fit the phases in my musical tastes Virgin= the Metalhead in me. Jagstang=Lots of my 70's rock heros play em and it also fits my like for Kurt Cobain........next I will get a acoustic to fit my love of Townes Van Zandt! Even if I never become a great player its something for my kids to have when they get older.

Lets hope I dont get a ukele because of my love for Tiny Tim!!! 😛

Edited to say the Stang is so much easier to play then the Virgin!

I went and got some strings I just winged it they are Fender "Original Bullets" 3150 XL dont know if they are any good but they will work better then the rusted ones that was on it when I got it!

Go for 11s for sure. 9s are extremely loose, 10s just a bit better. 11s are perfectly balanced for the 'stang.

The heavier the string, the warmer the sound, and the looser the distortion, and the harder they are going to be to press down. I'd go with 9's or 10's to start, and then work up.

I use 9's now, but I used to use my own custom 014 set at one time. I don't think I knew anyone who could play my guitar or bend strins durign that time. I was the only one who could.

9s are too loose and bendy for a short scale guitar. They feel nice and are easy to play but they just bend too easy and they make the guitar feel like a toy IMO.

dick dale , King of Surf , Tsunami of Surf music , if my memory dont fail dick dale use a Stratocaster Golden , Hand maded By leo Fender , modded by leo fender to hand on 0.16 strings , Pickups hand wired by leo fender , and yes its a 0.16 😲

i use Zakk wylde .11 witch is a misc of .11,.12.13 X.X its kill my fingers to do bend on Big E

gonna experiment .9 at my JS , since i learning classic music , soap strings sounds better

someday i will try .16

We have those Zach Wylde GHS Boomers at my shop. Just for kicks, we strung up a strat that was equipped w/tremelo and you should have seen the bridge on that thing come out of the body when we tuned it up(the thing was set up for .9's), it was f***d. 😆

Shoot, the 014's are why I have such a dislike for a Floyd Rose!

See this......This is MY Kramer that had the 014's on it....and see that bridge, that's not a Floyd Rose, it's a Kahler, because the 14's yanked the Floyd Rose tremelo into the bridge pickup cavity over time, one day it finally just snapped! Funny part is it was supposed to use Gibson Hardware to install, instead I used cylinder head bolts from an old Lawn Mower I had sitting in the backyard! I had to downgrade to 11's when I got the Kahler, then had to downgrade to 009's to use it to play Eruption in concert in my later high school days. If it were not for that stinkin' Floyd, I would still probably be using 014's to this day.

I'd say 10s for a beginner, and maybe later go for the 11s or possibly something like a 10-52 set? (Heavier wound strings with light plain ones)

EDIT: Just rememeber you always should redo the guitar setup (intonation, bridge height, maybe even the truss rod at least in bigger changes) if you change to different string tension, a. ka. to heavier or lighter string OR to a lower/higher tuning. If you don't know how to do it, maybe it's better to take it to a guitar shop. Bad truss rod adjustion can easily break the thing and that's one expensive problem to fix..
