Basically this guitar sounds like a jag - bright, thin and low-ish output. Its probably heavier than a regular jag, but its definitely the lowest output guitar i have - and that includes my single-coil equipped Squier Duosonic!

If you want a jaguar cos "OMG KURT RULEZZZ", or just cos you like metal/heavy rock, get a Squier Jagmaster II.

they just got a Jag HH in my local GC today and its so perdy Id purchase it but im flat broke.... 🙄

that it is! I hated the "modern" design idea when I saw a picture but in real life its really nice! Still id get black knobs instead of the chrome ones,black start knobs would be nice. But it reminds me a Sonic Youth type guitar i dont know why.

Nooooo... the chrome knobs are the best bit! I jst want to put a white or maybe tort pick guard on mine cos I've decided it's a bit too black.

Echelon - is yours really lower output than a duosonic? I'm surprised, mine is quite a bit beefier than my strat.

HH is a great axe anyway - it's so solid with that tune-o-matic you only have to tune it once a week! 😁

Pedro - what strings do you use on your HH?

i think the thin-ness and lack of sustain might be to do with the strings; when i bought it the previous owner had got it professionally set up with 10s - and the action was REALLY low.

i replaced the strings with 11s..but i accidently bought the new 'Standard Tension' Fenders, where was im used to their supper bullets.

action is still crazy low and the strings feel really floppy - prob why my power-slinky high-action duo sonic feels/sounds beefier!

yeah, the action does make a difference like that, mine was really high from the shop and I dropped it down a wee bit and was surprised how different it felt. I use d'addario XL 11s, don't know if I'd really recommend them but they're cheap! It had 10s on it but they made it feel too weedy.

It's a breeze to raise the action so you might aswell give it a go and see if you prefer it - you'll have to check the intonation too at some point but that's not rocket science.

So yours is 2nd hand? Strange that you think it doesn't have much sustain cos I really noticed how good mine is! Definitely try raising the action and see if it improves things. It might just be different musical styles - I find the sharp bright sound good for stuff I play but that's more like 60s / indie / new-wavey type music. Judging by your video that might not be your bag 😁

If you can't get the sound you want maybe new pickups will sort it - whatever happened to that plan to stuff 2 AV p'ups and 2 hotrails in there??!

ok im gonna fit powerslinkies and raise the action a bit! seems stupidly low!

pickup plan was a bit too complicated - might still do it, but thought id give the stock pickups a proper go first!

What kind of distortion are you using? It sounds REALLY chunky...

Also... Vintage Dimarzio Super II's.

I'll try to get a better picture later. There's duct-tape holding the pickup ring in place because the guy who cut the pickguard drilled the mounting holes a bit too large, and the tension of the spring pushes the screws out if they aren't held in place. It's a temporary fix and I might use a caulk gun underneath to try and set it right.

I saw a black/chrome Jag HH at Long & McQuade last time I was in Calgary, still had the plastic on the pup covers. I picked it up and played it, but the strings were like .8's and it sounded like ####. I didn't like it... Maybe I'm too used to using DR .11's with the Dimarzios now.
