Hi. This is my first ever post here, hope its not too stupid. I was wondering if anyone could give some step by step advice about how to go about painting my guitar headstock? I checked out some websites (project guitar I believe), but theres still some things I'm not totally sure about, and I don't want to wretch my guitar trying!
Some questions...
-If I am just painting the headstock (not the whole neck), can I get away with just sanding down the areas I want to paint?
-What type of spray paint, and what type of varnish (or clear finish, gloss finish? the clear paint on top of the normal paint-not sure what exactly its called) should I get (not necesary the brand, as that may be different from place to place, but the specific type of paint that would be good)? I'm hoping something that can be gotten in a standard DIY shop? If its important, my neck is maple.
-Roughly how many coats of paint should I do? And, roughly how long an interval between each coat? Do I have to sand in between coats, to make sure the surface is smooth for me to place my waterslide decal?
-Roughly how many coats of the varnish thing should I put? And, roughly how long an interval between each coat?
