Alden 12 string

I'm looking for a lefty 12 string, but there aren't too many around, though I don't want a Rickenbacker. This one seems quite good for the money, but I'd like to see what other people think.

I know a guy with the Sirname Alden, does that count? It's a very nice looking guitar though!

i know it sounds a bit wierd saying this, because of what the guitar is, but isn't that pretty expensive for an alden? i thought they were all under 100 quid of a job?

Be careful, it could be a bit 'feel the cheapness'. I guess it's not so easy to try it out if it's an ebay seller. Fender make the Strat XII, I'm not sure about prices though.

You'll always find that hollow and semi hollow guitars cost more because of the extra woodwork that goes into them, even in mass production.

Spot on Bob, hollowbodies do tend to cost more because of that reason. Rick, the quadra star goes for around 150-200, and the lefties seem to be more expensive than right hand models. Please bear in mind that there aren't any other companies that make lefty 12 strings for this price range. I'm just concerned about buying something that might just be a load of fancy looking poorly crafted rubbish.

I've heard some good things about Aldens, Spitifire on the SS forum has a Quadrastar or whatever they're called, he digs it.

Whilst on the subject of electric 12 strings, has anyone ever tried out a Guild 12 string Starfire? If so, what did they think of it?

I bought an Alden Dorchester 12 last year and it was excellent. Really well built and a first class jangly sound. I gave it to someone as a gift and I've been considering getting another one now they are selling them again. I've got 5 Alden guitars now and they all work and sound great. They've all got good necks with no sharp frets or buzzing. Usually the only thing that lets them down is minor problems with the finish - bindings that you can see the joins on, overspray on paintwork etc - nothing that effects the sound or playability though. The pickups in all cases are excellent, especially the 'deco' pickups on the Quadrastar and Dorchester. I regularly use these guitars live and never had any problems.
