I've got one and I don't really like it. I got it cheap, like you, years ago. You should punt it on the 'bay, they go for a lot.

Yeah I've been thinking that. It has some crappy knobs on it, but Marshall kindly sent me 5 of the correct ones for free, so i could get a nice profit out of it.

Amazing with: Marshall jcm800 or any old solid state

Bit rubbish with: Any other tube amp

Basically it has very little volume boost: the jcm 800 sounds exactly like it so it kinda builds on top i suppose, and solid state amps always take volume boosts well (jonny greenwood uses a fender solid state with it to get his sound). Thom has one but he mainly uses turbo rats I think. Any other tube amps just soak up the volume boost so it sounds a bit...stale I guess.

With a jcm800 its the balls though.

Ahh cool thanks Jellybelly, well I have the same model solid state Johnny uses (Fender Eighty-Five) so it should do what it does well.

No, they didn't, although thanks to guitargeek many people think they did. Kevin Shields used 2 Marshall Guv'Nor distortions (the original version).

I picked up an old Marshall Drivemaster recently, really happy with it. Goes from slight break up right through to OTT distortion. Cost me
