New Jaguar owner

Hi everyone, I just achieved Jaguar ownership and thought i'd join the forum as i've often spent a long time over here drooling over all the Jags/Jazzmasters.

It's a '68 with the block neck apart from some Vintage re-issue tuners, an american re-issue body ( I got it VERY cheap as it is a bit of a mongrel) and Seymour Duncan antiquity pick-ups. I'd stick a picture up but i have no idea how!!!

i was wondering if anyone knew where i could find the string mute and bridge cover? I want to add them to the guitar, mainly for cosmetic reasons, but what the hey! Anyone know where i can order them? Otherwise i'm gonna have to sit and wait on Ebay.

also, bear in mind that some parts needed for a functional mute are not provided with the basic part that is given. ie, the foam, spring, self tapping screws, cylinder/barrel

like rick said. it may be more of a pain than a pleasure to instal a working mute. The mute on my serviceman jaguar is just or looks and i don;t think it ever actually worked but the one on my us is fantastic. i see the mutes on ebay everyonce in a while but the foam is always missing and or it is completely rotted away.

I think i might just get the mute piece with the foam insert and then use a jaguar construction diagram to find the other bits and build it. I'd be quite happy to have it purely for cosmetics. The bridge cover should be easy now!

I still can't work out how to add pictures!!! It's too hard but i'll keep trying.

I uploaded them at photobucket.com and then pasted in the address. Worked out okay!

Everytime I saw a nice foto of a Jaguar a problem is born in my head.

I can't decide which is the best color.

Until now Olympic white was my favourite since a few days ago that I saw a black one with 4-ply brown shell guard.I loved it.

AND TODAY THIS ONE!

It's so hard to say stop to think of it man.You decided Olympic White and you will buy Olympic White.

candy apple red is one of my favourite colours. AV jags are very rare in that too. unless it's been refinished?

I'm pretty sure the body has been re-finished, there's a darker patch of colour at the bottom of the body that looks to me like someones repainted it. It also has a few nicks and chips exposing what looks like an undercoat.

The guy selling it lives relatively close to me so i went and played it and then won the auction. I used his pictures as i haven't taken any myself.

I think, considering how well it plays and sounds that there's little else out there to match it for the money. If it had the original body you'd be looking at a grand at least i reckon. It's got to be better value then a new re-issue at the same price, they just don't sound that good. All the vintage jags i've seen are silly money, even refins.

I think you've got a very good deal myself! As you said, the Jap reissues are more than that and you've got yourself a sweet block neck!
