I won't admit this!!! I just happen to have a Jag-Stang with JB in bridge, a Boss DS-2, Polychorus and a late 70s Fender Super Twin (..Reverb). Haha.. 🙄😆

I guess I digged his guitar sound pretty much few years ago when I bought most of these.

Hey downer I think you're missing the obvious with the powerchord thing. Just use your index finger to lightly mute all the strings not required to play the chord. That way you can strum all the way down the strings without them playing, they will just sound as muted strings and may actually add some nice overtones to the three notes you're already playing.

True. This way you can strike the strings with more force and that may affect the sound too. Or break some strings maybe.. 😆

hey that's what i do - v useful!

Also from those photos, it looks like Kurt had a good fretting hand technique - thumb dead on the centre on the back of the neck. who'd have thought it eh!

He often played his powerchords on the E string like that.. which would actually be a Sus 4 chord, not a power 5th. Sloppy left hand technique, yo.

the middle finger is just resting, he uses his ring finger to cover the three strings, but it will sound just fine lik this

If you're picking hand is accurate you can do anything you want with the fretting hand provided the root, 5th and octave (the powerchord part) are fretted, but it's better, a lot better, to make sure both are tidy!

i play powerchords the 'kurt' way simply because i learn to play nirvans stuff just by watching nirvana videos for hours on end.

i can play em using 3 finger sbut i fidn it easier to play using 2 fingers so i suppose its each to their own

i play them the way kurt does, not to be like him but when i first got my guitar i just did it like when i was trying to learn the tab to smells like teen spirit on my own. i play it with my pointer and ring finger, i sort of mute the strings with my pointer finger and i mute the G string with my ring. i dunno if that makes sense but its how i do it

Well for me (being left handed) when I'm playing slower songs I use 4 fingers so its like

G|---2- (middle)

D|---3- (pinkie)

A|---3- (ring)

E|---1-- (index)

but on faster things I do it the kurt way because its just easier for me

Why would you want to play exactly like somebody else anyway? Kurt is dead, btw. He's not going to be impressed that you can frame a chord exactly the way he could.

My 2 cents: Kurt just played how he felt most at ease.

I don't wanna copy anyone's technique or whatever but I'm a self-taught guitar player that got no help or pointers at all when learning and just put my hand on the frets like I felt was the easiest way for me so my style is to use alot of barr
