62 Reissue Jag BODY

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, and am really happy about this forum. I've just placed an order in for the 62 Reissue (sunburst) American, but I've got a couple questions for the Jag vets out there...

1) The Body.

- what really excites me is the shorter scale (I'm a 5'6 player). But is the body fairly large? I'm currently playing on an American Deluxe Tele, how would you say the size compares to a tele?? Heavy? Large? Being a shorter guy, the most accomodating guitar I've played to date has been the Gibson Les Paul, but really it killed my back and I hated the tone. I love the Fender tone, and want something that will have me bouncing around without feeling akward.

2) Mustang Bridge.

- really sounds like this is the #1 mod made on this guitar. I do play quite heavy with my right hand and would hate to have the strings come out on stage. So, I'll make that adjustment, but how does that effect the tone? My tech wouldn't let me order the mustang bridge until after I've played with the stock one first. (He's a new tech for me, and I like the concept he's getting at, but dammit I'm paying him!)

3) The pick-ups.

- I've been told I have a spaghetti western type style of playing (though the band is anything but). How many of you are satisfied with the stock pick-ups? I'd like to keep it sort of twangy, but want some juice/power behind it. Any suggestions?

I think that the Jaguar body is a little larger than the Telecaster body, but only a little. The offset waist and "custom contour body" shape make all the difference, though. It`s very comfy, and when you adjust the strap to the right place, it just fits.

The Mustang brudge adds sustain and thickens the tone up a bit. I think it gives the guitar a bit more "twang". The traditional bridge sounds OK, though it's a bit more work to set up. People talk of how the saddles on the Japanese Jaguars have uniform-sized grooves, while the original American Jaguar bridge Has larger grooves for the larger strings, and medium grooves for the medium strings, and so on- and this is important. Some folks use a "buzz stop" attachment on their tailpieces with the standard bridge, and I highly recommend it, especially if you favor lighter strings.

I`ve heard the pickups on Japanese Jaguars can sound rather weak, and that they`re not wax-potted, and make microphonic squeals. I think standard contemporary American Jaguar pickups are as good as they`ve ever been, however. If you want a Spaghetti Western guitar tone, the Jaguar is definately the way to go.

i'm about the same height as you and i probably weigh less, you'll love the jag. i've never thought it looked "big" on me at all, which is more than i can say about my strat or les paul (the les paul has a more agreeable scale than the strat, but it's thick neck and heavy body make it feel much bigger).

i have screaming the benefits of the jag to short people all over, im 5;5 and have had my av jag for about 1 1/2 years now. great guitar. it took over as my main ax right away. the low cut will give you all the twang you want, i garentee it.
