hello people

I have a Japanese Jazzmaster from 1993-1994 and have just started to try and install an active overdrive circuit (TONE F01 from Guitarfetish.com) but gotten really confused. All Fender wiring diagrams show a slightly different wiring of the main tone pot (regarding the 0.2 capacitor) to what I have in the guitar.

1. Has anyone noticed this?

2. Does it make any difference?

3. Has anyone tried something similar?

If anyone has any help or info or even how to wire in the active circuit I would really appreciate their help.

I only have one wiring digram for the jazz and it doesn't use a .2uF cap (though the rhythm pickup tone control uses a .02uF, so perhaps you've misread the value?). This is no big deal: the larger the cap the more highs are shunted to ground as the resistance on the tone pot decreases, so different values can be subbed in to suit your taste/the pickup. It won't mess up the circuit or anything. All that matters is that the basic wiring scheme is the same as was used in original jazzmaster. If it is, then we're singing from the same hymn sheet.

If you want the effect to work on all settings, the main thing is to use the wire that runs from the 'hot' lug of your output jack (the lug connected to the longer contact) to the RH (looking at switch with scrathplate on its front) centre lug of the slide switch in the upper horn. This is a white lead in the wiring diag I have (and in my own guitar if I recall). You'll have to break it somewhere in the chain - might need to use new wire(s) - so that the end connected to your switch becomes the 'input hot' (though I prefer FX in) and the wire connected to output jack hot is wired to the FX output - either buffered or true bypass - via switching. No idea what 'switching jack red is'.

In the wiring diagram shown, the lead you need to use is the one from the 'hot'/tip lug of the jack socket to the (upper) mid contact of the slide switch. You need to break it as described in my initial post.
