what do guys think of me putting a jb jr. in the bridge and a texas special in the neck of a jag

what do you think thatll sound like

I think it would sound like a jagstang probley have a nice lowend distorted tone and a nice clean to if your lucky, or it could sound ####ty Im not sure never seen anyone with that mod on a jag.

cause i want a heavy rock sound without gettting humbuckers installed what should i do

I don't know....with the right distortion and lots of knob tweakin' you can get any sound with sc, IMO

i can get a really heavey sound out of my av by just using the rythm section and overdrivng the hell of the tubes in my twin.

i want it to be pretty heavy but to where it still keeps good clean tones so ive been looking at jb jrs. hotrails ect. ect. but i just dont know

i really like you jag elias was that alot of work and how much did it cost to do are those jap coils or what

Thanks for the compliment, Stangjag. It didn't really cost much to do the mod cos I did the wiring myself (with some help from dad 😀). The cost is mainly the hotrails pickup (got it from ebay), a new toggle switch and routing done by a local guitar tech (around US$32).

It was a tight fit for the 3-way toggle switch on the lower horn cos I retained the use of the 2 other sliding switch and I had to sand off part of the toggle switch to be able to fit it into the cavity.

The Jaguar pickups are AV reissues which I've replaced a long time ago.

Oh, for clean tone, Hotrails definitely can't nail it well...but it doesn't bother me cos I can still use my jag pickups for that role. The Hotrails give a slight extra juice when it comes to distortion though 😉

I am going to put a hotrail on the bridge position and a quarter pound on the neck side.... I have the guitar, the pickups, I just need my friend to help me with putting them on.... 😁

Does that make sense or should i put the quarter pound as a bridge pickup??

A few things to consider: Whether the hotrails is a bridge or neck version, the pots of the neck/bridge circuit, what type of sound you're looking for. You might want to experiment a bit with different configuration to get the best options/sounds out of it. Depending on which pickup is really bright, you might wanna try putting that in the neck position to see if you can get a nice offset to the original bright sound for a more warmer, interesting tone. I'm not sure about the brightness/output of the QP but there's potential risk of it sounding too dark in the neck position due to the neck circuit too.

If it's not too troublesome, you should get your friend to help you try out both configurations cos alot of times, you'd only know the results after you've put things together! 😆
