Angled TOM installation?

hi all (my first post).

I'm about to mod my Jag and I have a question.

I'll be installing a (Gotoh) TOM and i've seen pics where the TOM is installed straight (parallel to the pickups) and others where it's installed angled.

What's the difference? Is it the intonation?

If it's better to install it angled, do I have to drill the body or will the existing holes do (since the TOM will be with thin standard posts)?

Furhtermore, has anyone tried to file TOM saddles to match the neck radius or you didn't mind the increased height of the outer strings?

The technician I've met recently (haven't tried him yet) said he'll do his best to match the radius.

those types of toms have quite a limited adjustment of the intonation. so the bridge is often installed slanted, because if it were not, you could end up with the thick E saddle not being able to go far back enough, or the thin E saddle not being able to far forward enough.

i think you can get wider intonation adjustments on some of the toms used on epiphone guitars. in which case, you can retrofit them right in without having to fill or drill for new ones. so if that's the case, then this is the one that you do want:

and the gotoh abr-1 is the one that you don't want.

yes, someone here did try filing the grooves down. he got the radius right. but a lot of people aren't bothered by the radius difference.

thanx for the reply but let me get this straight,

you mean that all the ppl who have a Gotoh TOM installed (like the ones in the Mods section of this site) on a Jaguar and not angled, are not able to get a proper intonation?

Isn't the bridge of the picture you proposed a Schaller TOM?

and a last one (sorry), i still haven't figured out if when having a tom installed (lets say the one in the picture), do i need F-spaced or normal pickups? (I'll be ordering a Super Distortion and a PAF pro).

But if he's installing a TOM then he can use normal ones, because F spaced pickups are only for Fender bridges aren't they?
