About rewiring / modifying the wiring

Hi!

(Just to explain why I ask this: I'm not a guitar tech, or an electronics pro. But I can use soldering iron properly, 'cause one of my dad's hobbies is electronics.)

Could anyone tell what kind of wire is good for rewiring or electrics modifications? If I wanted to totally rewire the Jag-Stang, could I use some "better" wire than the original? What kind of wire is especially good wire? At least thicker wire can convey more electric current, but is there any disadvantages on using thick wire? No, I don't mean to overdo it like 3/8 inch thick, but as I recall, the original wires are pretty thin. Could I use any thicker wire or will I just make it worse? What else could affect to the wiring quality than the wire thickness? (good/bad soldering doesn't need to be mentioned..)

Did you notice any difference before/after rewiring? What does that 22 gauge mean? 0.22 inch thick or what?

Unless there is something wrong with the guitar there isn't really much point in rewiring it. Thicker wires won't do anything, the same current will still be flowing through the wires. The only time you would need thicker wires on something is if you were going to stick a huge current through something and to do that it would require some heavy mods and would probably knacker all the electronic components. Bigger wire will only be less flexible and harder to work with which is why is usualy best to use as thinner stuff as you can get away with.

Like I said before, theres no point unless there is something broken, and only then just use the same kind of wire that came out.

guitars are passive, so the current will travel however it wants, no matter what the thickness.

well, the vintage wire is strictly a preference for me...and it affords me the practice to perfect my soldering technique...but, the guys are right...it won't make any real difference.

Thanks for the answers! I just thought this might be something to improve, but good to know that it won't change much. Maybe I'll rewire some parts or all of it while doing some modifications/adjustments/etc, when having the pickguard off anyway. But doesn't seem to be a point of real improvement.
