Hey, I'm thinking of buying this pedal. has anyone got it?

can it sound fuzzy but also overdriven like the you dirty rat?

edit: i dont want it to be just another ds1

It's a drier sound than the standard RATs, not much sustain, so it's dug by bassists. If you want a fat fuzzy sound, I'd go for RAT2.

At the Melvins Krist was using one with Flipper and it sounded ace, pretty chuggy and 'FAT', but it wasn't lost with all the other fuzzy messy goodness.

A Turbo RAT yeah?

I used a RAT2 on my bass in my old mathy rock band and always found it too messy.. couldn't be arsed to get a Turbo RAT just for bass though 😁

Ahh no sorry wires crossed, he used a normal Rat 2, he had the distortion set relatively low though. Really made me want one - maybe after Christmas 😀 Do you still have a Math Rock band?

Cool. Come to think of it, the RAT2 sounded a lot better running through a decent amp (the one's I'd borrow off other bands at shows 😎 ), I guess my memory is clouded using it with crappy amps.

Uhmm I guess Casa Bonitaare kinda "mathy" but only in the same way that other band (Illuminati 3) were, odd time sigs and stupid changes and that. Nothing too proggy or anything.

The Casa Bonita stuff is really cool, I really like the guitar 'sound' a bit like Big Black crossed with My War era Black Flag, but more refined..if that makes any sense. 😛

Heh, thanks mate. It's all lowass tunings with octave pedals type stuff, to fill in for the lack of a bassist.

Yeah- I'd always tooled around with bass on my own recordings before, but I got roped into playing bass for Illuminati 3 in '02/03 (I forget), so I bought my own MIM J Bass off a bud and took it from there.

I'm more of a pick player, but can play with fingers and a bit of slap-pop at a push.

Ahh cool, I can dabble a bit on bass, I don't have one though. Also, possibly wrong forum but what do you use to record? A recorder or PC/Software?

Uh.. my solo (Doog) stuff is done on a Boss BR8.. the Weevil Knievel stuff was done on our bassist's Yamaha 24 track desk thing and Cubase.

The Casa Bonita stuff was recorded on said 24 track (live drums and guitar 1) and the BR8 (guitar 2 and vox), and is currently being mixed on my pc in Acid. Driving me nuts 😈

Ahh right, sorry I ask so many questions - Gestapo 😀 I've been looking into the new Boss Micro BR, but it doesn't really do that much. Otherwise I may get myself a decent soundcard and an SM-57.

I used to hate the idea of computer recording (not sure why), but after having been introduced to mixing on a PC and the flexibility and precision it offers, I'm a convert. I'd record onto it to if I ever actually recorded where my pc is..

The best thing about the BR8 is all the FX, sims and that on it. I've done some very decent demos plugging guitars straight into it.. and to tell you a secret, the 2nd guitar on the Casa stuff is amp sim'D stuff from the BR8 😡
