65 reissue or not?

Greetings gentlemen

As of yesterday afternoon i am now the proud owner of newly created Mustang and man does this guitar kick ass.

However i have a few questions if someone could help me.

I was told by the dealer that i was purchasing a 65 reissue Daphne blue, upon reading the Fender.com site It says that there is a "F" stamped into the neck plate for these, my guitar has no such marking.

The Serial # is R075244

The fender site states that this is

Crafted in Japan R + 5 Digits 2004-2005

The fender site also states the 65 reissue was introduced 07/2006

Can u guys help me out?...is mine a 65 reissue?.....im just a stats hound.....i like to know exactly what i have.

does it say made in japan or crafted in japan.

take off the neck, look for a date. take off the pickguard and look for copper grounding.

post back with your findings.

oh, and is the decal on top of the clear coat or beneath?

post a picture, if its not Daphne Blue its Sonic Blue which would mean its not a 65' RI, thats a real simple way to find out.

by decal i mean the lil thing on the headstock that says fender. its not engraved its just a lil pieces of basically tape that is applied to the wood, or laquer.

if it exactly like the one on the fender website then i bet you have an 06 mustang,

as far as i believe the newer ones(65 reissues) with black pup covers and the likes, were started in 06.

Yep, sorry to say that you've been dupped on that one man. Fender re-Issued the '65 this past July(check the Fender site). Before that, they were re-issuing the '69's. And it sounds like that's what you've got.

HA............i knew i wasn't going bonkers!...........or....i already am but i knew it wasn't getting worse

but first

- The Decal is underneath the clear coat

- My guitar does NOT have the indent in the back of the body contour

- I did notice that the top of my tuning pegs are white........the 69's were chrome

I did some surfing in hopes to find more info or even pics regarding the 69 reissue...and surprisingly i found very little. Even fender has no info on there own guitar??????

or was i just looking in the wrong places???

I wouldn't say i was duped Mr.Black Tie...........either way i have a kick ass new guitar no matter what reissue it is said to be.......just misinformed

From your description, I'm 99% certain you have the '65 reissue. As Fender Japan always does, they probably were making the guitar for atleast a year before they got imported to America.

You can take the pick up covers off, but why do you want to? It'll just look ugly.

just curious if the covers are just for cosmetics or effect tone?

purely looks, they don;t affect the tone, unless you are eric johnson, then the wind effects your tone.
