echelon how can i tell if my Fender Jaguar is made of alder or basswood? it was made in 1995 so could be either - i was wondering if there was any way to physically tell the different (weight, sound?)not that it really matters, im just curious.
greenlee its been generally decided that the MIJ jags are basswood unless its a sunburst which seem to be alder.
Gavin Yeah. As far as I know on the older ones it's basswood for the solid colours and alder for the bursts; the newer ones are all alder. I have no idea when they started doing them all in alder.
robertoriginal basswood is fairly light and deep sounding. its a much less dense wood than maple, but then again maple is just about the hardest substance known to man. don;t believe me, careve a neck with lil more than a razor blade.
