Again, for the last time... Because I dont speak english and are from sweden.

The mute on Jaguars consists of some parts. Like the mute plate.

On that there is some foam.

Its to drill an rather exact hole in the guotar, explaned on varius places here. But is that all parts needed? Screws and so on, I notice only one screw on the plate, but the rest?

I dont like to buy parts and find out something is missing....

There is a hole in the pickguard where the mute is meant to be, which makes positioning it easier.

Yes... Thats no problem.. The thing is on the Images on the guitarparts site there is no screws no spring for the plunger... The screws that hold the plate in place, the skrew on the plunger that holds the spring in place.. Why isnt there na simple set.. Complete replacement set for mute. After all there is lots of peopel here that orderd mutes and so on..

Well I guess I have to order the parts and see what happends.. Thanks you Tweez for the tip anyway... Mutch welcome!

Now I got it to 50%... The plate on the image got an screw in the middle. That is the screw holdigt the plunger and spring on place with an nut and washer. But the screws to hold the plate.

Now I am not an fan of fenders constructions on the strat... But this mute thingy must be one of the stupidiest constructions ever...

All the parts you need to fit a 'mute' are not readily available.

You'll need...

1. the mute plate

2. self tapping screws

3. some sort of foam to stick on the mute, i used a piece of mouse pad

4. a spring and plunger

AHA in short there is no way of buying parts to make an mute work. You have to "fix" parts to get it to work. So if I buy the parts listed above I am almost done, just to dig deep into the toolbox after screws, washer, nut and two special looking screws...?

Can any one post an good photo of the screws the holds the plate. Thank you all!

The screws are plain self-tapping screws, nothing special. As for the plunger, i filed a plastic block into a small cylinder shape slightly smaller in radius to the drilled hole and about half the depth of the hole measurement. A spring like the ones used in Boss pedals will do.

Thanks Fran... I am 90% clear with it all now. I think it will be an simpel operation to handel. But to the last question. What is "self-tapping screws" I have been googeling for it. You see here in this northen cold land we have metal screws and wood screws to that an heap of diffrent models of eatch. But no self-tapping ones. Is it that the screws dont have an thread up by the head?

Why didnt the teach this stuff in english class back in school.

Self tapping screws are just screws that cut there way in as you screw them, they'll go through metal, plastic, wood.... no need to pre-drill first.

Aha.... there you go! Just as long they are longer than pickguard as described on an page somwere here. Thanks!

I will return with the progress, first step is to order the parts.

Recived parts today. But the pickguard is curved. Not flat like the one on the Jazzmaster or the Jaguar present. Are they ment to bee curved? (see photo below)

Mute parts are all Ok. Just need an spring now...

just slap the guard on the guitar and screw it down. It'll be fine.

Yeah, it may pay you to loosen your chrome plates as well and jiggle things around a little. All will be cool.

I tested the new pickguard today. There is no way in he** that it can fit. The holes are ofset, the pickupholes are smaller, the shape of the new guard is not as the old one. Odd, naww I will keep the old guard. Anyone wants an mincondition orginal Jaguar pickguard cheep? 😕

The mute is going to be mounted on sunday.

Dont tell me its an impossibel mission from the start, well I really love to make an fool of my self. Never mind. Yess best Sir, its an MIJ Jaguar. I thought with fenders "change parts as you like system" that an Jaguar made in Asia, would fit an american made pickguard made fron the same company. But hey, I am an sucker...

But the Mute is going on in any case! No matter what! 😛
