vibrato questions...

Hi everyone,

I've just got a second hand USA reissue Jaguar, and apoligise in advance for a few basic questions:

The vibrato arm has a notch on the end, how far should i push it in? Should it lock into position and be very tough to pull out?

The collet that hold the arm in place has two of the holding bits snapped off. Does anyone know where I can get this replacement part, instead of a whole replacement . I am in the UK, but don't mind ordering from the US.

i think that part might be a bit difficult to come by. don't think anywhere has them. but the lip does work the way you said. it clips in, swings freely, and only comes out with a small amount of force. not too hard to pull out

ok, thanks for that. i will try to use it with just the two teeth left on it for now. luckily they are opposite each other. if the worst comes to the worst I will have to get a replacement bridge.

Actually, Guitar Parts Resource has the whole assembly for the bar attachment for USA jags. As far as the bar, I have no idea why Fender added the notch to the bar. I say get the Un-Notched version on the aftermarket, it should work fine.

they put a lip on so that it stays in place. it's an ingenius little idea.

the aftermarket trem arms you speak of are too big and won't fit in an american trem. he doesn't need a new bar, there's nothing wrong with the one he's got. yes, they do seem to have the collet here. i'd never seen it:

no. he needs a new trem.

On my -94 MIJ jag, the tremoloarm had that notch. Totally worthless if you ask me! But when having the guitar refinished I bought an new tremolo, (copy) I used the collet fron teh new and the new arm with out the notch. Now I can have the tremoloarm fixed as I like and not hanging down on the guitarcord....
