Demo Mixing

Okay, so my band have recorded a few tracks with a 4 track. The output on the 4 track are stereo and take the red and white end leads. I was wondering, if I bought a stero to mini jack ( like the one that goes into the soundcard on a pc) wether I would be able to connect it up to the pc and insted of using a mixing desk to do the process could I do it on the pc and save them as MP3s.

The demo is on tape so I'm not expecting this to be possible but hey ya never know. Also if it is possible can someone reccomend me some software to do this with?

Cheers for this. If this aint possible I can just mix it on an old stereo of my dads which has stereo inputs and some mixer thingy in it.

yeah, just run it into the mic or line input (can't remember which is most suitable) on the back of your pc soundcard, and record it into audacity or some other free recording device. then you change the files from .wav to mp3 with winlame

Right , but can I actually MIX the demo on the PC as well as recording it to the pc?

Also will audacity be able to recognise the tape as all the different tracks? Like will it have 1st tracks and all the guitar parts and then second for all the drums etc etc.

of course not. as it would all be going as one signal into the sound card.

you'll have to record them all seperately as different tracks, to audacity. one at a time. then mix them in audacity. there's no point though. you might as well just mix it down on the 4 track, then play it all in one track to the pc imo

actually, maybe it could recognise stereo. but that would still only give 2 signals or 'tracks'
