Hey,
Having had my CIJ Jaguar for a little over month or so now I'm ready to change the pickups from the stock.
I've had a fair look at the Seymour Duncan ones but it's really hard to find out which is the best for me.
My old guitar is an Epiphone, Gibson copy, with a thin neck and the stock pickups, which I assume are humbuckers. I like the range of sounds I was able to pull out of this guitar, but it's a bit too muddy for me.
Ideally I'd want pickups that will suit my playing style, that includes the following:
New Wave - The Cure, The Sound, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Swans, Echo And The Bunnymen etc
Rock - The Gun Club, Velvets, Shiva Burlesque, Modern Lovers, Neil Young, At The Drive-In etc
Post-Rock - Godspeed, Explosions in the sky, Sigur Ros etc
R+B/Rockabilly - Johnny Kid and the Pirates, Stones, The Sonics etc
I also play modern music heh!
I get that it's difficult to recommend something specifically from the above list. I certainly know that my basic guitar style isn't frantic but isn't relaxed, uses reverb but isn't typical distorted much. I'm certainly no metal head. I often like Arabic sounds, drones, delays, tremolo work etc.
Here are some youtube/myspace links to guitar sounds that I like and would like to replicate:
Gun Club - Stranger in our town - http://www.youtube.com/watch?
A nice rock guitar sound, not distorted but crunchy
Bauhaus - Hollow hills - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP6V-DqlBQkv=S1SvNX8Fidw
Lots of bowing and subtle eerie picking
The Cure - Killing an arab -
Great full Jazzy chorus's sound
The Stones - Paint It Black is another favourite.
What I really like though is that 60's sound where everything recorded sounded so low-fi, whereas I have how modern music is so bland and studio produced.
That's why I want help picking the pickups. I really have no idea which would suit me and the Jag.
Thanks for any help.
