Anybody here ever heard of/ tried any of these. The idea seems pretty cool and the price is right, but I don't want to blow money on junk:

I've been toying with getting the top horn control plate off a Jag and sticking it on one of my guitars (probably my black strat) and having an onboard preamp wired behind it, but those plates are bloody expensive!

I've done a few DIY things like that before. Active midboosts and such, but how complicated would it be to make something like these:

The first one may be quite complicated if it really does what it says, but the compressor shouldn't be too dificult to build yourself, never made a compressor so I couldn't tell you how but if you search on Google you'll find plenty or schematics.

When you made your mid boost did you use an LM386 (or other 386) chip? If you did, or you're familiar with this chip, you can make your own distortions simply by experimenting with different diodes in inverse paralell across the gain lugs (1&4).
