toez10 hey, I was wondering if anyone knows what the mark up on a new guitar is? I've just always wondered, if there is a new american strat on the wall for 900-1000 bucks, what the stor paid for it. Anyone know about this stuff?
BlackTie It really depends on the store. If they're buying in bulk then their price for the guitar lower than let's say a store that only stocks a few.

Again, so I was told by a guy who worked in a guitar shop.
toez10 thanks for the responses, it was just something I've been curious about, as a music business student, instrument retail is always something I've thought about. I also have heard horror stories about fender's ridiculous stocking demands on small stores. Basically you have to carry an entire line of squier and fender guitars and amps if you want to carry any at all.
Loco I think it's more likely to be Gibson who impose ridiculous demands on small stores? Could be why they've disappeared altogether from my local shop? Plenty of Fender, Squier, Epiphone and Ibanez - even high end PRS! 🙄
Bob_the_godly_dude It's most companies Loco, probably the reason Gibson have vanished is because either they or Fender, or someone, have increased their demands and the shop has had to choose one or the other, and probably Fenders are more popular so they've gone with them.
robertoriginal i know that if you want the martin line, you have to first sell one of every model of sigma, then you start with the low end martins. then if you sell all of thos and can afford it then you get the chance for cf martin but its around 80,000.00 just to open the line.
