Thats what I said. Wire from copper plate to tailpiece. The strings attach to the tailpiece. Tailpiece == trem.

Why do I get the impression you are talking down to me? I'm aware of how grounding works.

but to get a wire from the copper plate to the tail piece would either mean a wire that went above the surface of the guitar or would mean you would need to drill a hole from the trem cavity to the control cavity. unless you meant that the trem plate was a copper plate.

Yea, I meant still drilling the hole down to the trem cavity. That would be kind of a pain. I don't have it in front of me to measure the distance, but from memory thats quite a ways to go. Thats why I was thinking the makers of the Graph Tech saddles must have come up with some kind of fix that wouldn't require so much invasive work to your guitar. If not, well I do apologize to the thread starter for suggesting them, I had seen them and planned to install them myself.

you can do it yourself. it's not that hard. in fact i'd say you should definitely do it yourself cos otherwise you'll have to pay someone else to do it and they probably won't know what you are talking about when you ask them to do it. it's easier to solder to the back of a volume pot cos you just take off the control plate and don't have to bother taking the strings and the guard off, but then you'll probably take the strings off to change the saddles anyway.

Ah, but soldering to the back of the pot was what I was referring to. I HATE doing this, they are usually made of aluminum, which is incredibly difficult due to the oxide layer on the surface doesn't allow solder to wet it, or some alloy of steel. Copper, on the other hand, is WAY easier to get solder to wet. I'm still debating whether to bother with these saddles now, I may just get a set of mustang saddles instead, they are cheaper and I don't have to bother with drilling. I haven't decided.

To save face for myself a bit, I should explain that I originally believed the GraphTech ones were in fact made of graphite, which IS conductive. I had to dig in the FAQ to find out what the exact material was, then a trip to wikipedia confirmed that boron is not conductive, despite the fact that it is used as a doping agent for p-type semiconductor junctions. Sometimes I wish I had studied materials science.

just solder the ground wire onto an existing solder joint on the existing pot, silly boy

or get a rosin flux dispensing pen which works great.

everyone falls for the graphtec = graphite thing.

What are you trying to say? I have a 'Stang bridge & a BuzzStop on my vintage Jag...first I installed the Buzzstop & it not only helped w/the buzzing & the strings moving about, it also improved the tone & sustain as well as the feel...still, the design of the original saddles sucks donkey balls, so later on I swapped that out too...another improvement in tone, tuneability & playability. Have you ever played a Jag with both mods?

To each their own, I guess...some folks actually like the stock bridge all by itself & think the bridge posts don't need wrapping...
