AV Fender Mustang 1965

i just wanted to show you my first (and maybe the last) american mustang 1965 i have bought yesterday.it is the blue one.it's in great condition,all parts seem to be original,but sadly,it was refinished 4 years back,by the second owner,who bought it stripped from the first owner (member of a californian surf band with one hit,but i have forgoten it's name..),who lost interest in this guitar and refinishing it.

It sounds great,but will need some tuning.First of all,the action is still very high,although i have putted the bridge as low as it was possible.Hope some guitar tech will do something with the trust rod and it will be fine.

But one thing is strange.The neck looks and feels as it is much thicker than the neck on my vintage whiteMustang'69 RI (made in japan 94-95).

Is that allright?

about the action, try to shim the neck, put a piece of thin card in the neck pocket. the thicker the card is, the lower the action. and try to straighten the neck, you dont really need to take it to a guitar tech, just do this

if its an up-bow, turn the trus rod anticlockwise, use only 1/4 inch turns

if its a back bow turn it clockwise, its really simple.

the inlays on the neck look kinda big... weird...

since you don;t know what inlays are i don;t think you should be working on your guitar.

take it to a guitar tech.

put the original bridge back on, and don;t mess with it at all

and for future reference, and just becuz alot of people do this.

buy the same gauge and type fo strings everytime.

EVERYTIME.

the inlays are those lil dots on the fretboard that people common refer to as fret markers. there is one on the 3rd 5th 7th 9th 12th etc.

i just didn't know the word inlay in English,oh my god..

and i didn't say anything about taking off the original bridge...it is on it's place.the seller already advised me to shimm the neck.so i will do that.

and i use the same strings EVERYTIME,but this was a new guitar,which had the string from a previous owner,so i changed them,sweet Jesus,was i supposed to use his strings EVERYTIME?

but my question again,is it just my feeling or are the vintage necks really thicker than the reissue necks? (i don't mean the fretboard,i mean the shape)

anyway, the japanese '69 reissue does have a smaller nut width than the old B width stang necks and the much rarer japanese '65 reissue. not sure if other dimensions of the neck are also smaller, but it's a distinct possibility

chillax, dude. take it to a guitar tech, let him set it up, and make sure you ask tons of questions. 😁

settle down, i wasn't being crappy to you. i was stating the obviouse which you had trouble understanding.

im sorry it came off that way, i really honestly and truly did not mean it to come out that way.

you just sounded like you were lost when it came to setting up your guitar so i gave you some pionters, such as.

have a tech do it.

don;t mess with it.

use the same gauge.

these are things that alot of people don;t grasp.

the problem with computers is you can;t hear the tone in someones voice or the expressions on there face.

take it easy and quit #### up

i've always admired your guitar collections and finaly i have a nice one.

sadly,that white mustang RI must go,cause i overdrew my account for that american one 😢

anyway,i got that american one for 800$,wasn't that a lucky day?i have also a opportunity to buy the original case,but it was in bad condition,one lock was broken,loads of scratches...

but i still have the temptation to buy it,just for having it lying under my bed.

do you think it is worth of 50$?

oh and i have already shimmed the neck with a folded calling card and then the action was perfect,realy comfortable,but the frets started buzzing and it deffinately killed the nice tone which the guitar produced while playing unplugged 😕

so i took the card back and left it like this,i will take it to a guitar tech later,if he won't come up with something,i will play it like this and get myself comfortable with the action.
