Russian Muff or other muffs

They put the jacks on the side. Unless you're using very slim patch leads it is less that 1cm thinner. That is, of course unless you're trying to save space in depth...

I personally didnt like the LBM, much prefer my NYC one. More open sound to it, IMO.

i have a double muff.. isn't any fuzzier than a normal muff... just with a wider range of fuzz... more subtle when you change the knob..

So I'm new and had a question about fuzz boxes so I decided to add to this one instead of wasting space and adding a new topic but any way my mom asked me (rather early I might add) what I wanted for Christmas and all I really wanted was a fuzz box. So I was wondering is there any difference between the Little big muff and the normal big muff and also if there is a better model made by someone else. I like garage rock and this seems to be what everyone is using so I was gonna go with that but I know jack about pedals other than they do cool stuff.

I like the ones in the green box. I havent owned one but played one of my giends.

I've owned the NYC one and It didnt fit my sound. It was more "fuzzy" but still lacked something.

I'd advise buying both of them then reselling the one you dont like.

I'm looking for something like a garage rock sound/mod rock type of fuzz. I've looked up sound files of the NYC big muff and it sounds like fuzzy distortion but maybe its just the settings they are using but its still pretty close to what I want

If you're looking for a high gain fuzz you might look at the analogman peppermint fuzz. There's more info and sound samples here:

If you want a really versatile fuzz pedal with a lot of available gain you might want to check out a Zvex Fuzz Factory. Or you may still like the Big Muff, I've used all the above and prefer the big muff. Though not as versatile, it's got "that" sound and I like it.

I guess the best example I could think is Revolution by the Beatles sound when John comes in with the intro riff. I'm guessing that the big muff is gonna be my best bet. I've heard the Little muff and (correct me if I'm wrong) but it seems to be closer to distortion.

I read that the big muff can have problems with not working properly (or not at all) is this a valid concern or pretty rare? Also is there really a difference between the russian and NYC reissues?

I just went and listened to Revolution, you could get close to that sound with a big muff if you turned up the tone. The fuzz on that song sounds more like an old germanium style fuzz to me though, or maybe one of the early model silicon fuzzes.

NYC Big Muffs are pretty reliable as compared to some other EHX effects. The only thing I would worry about is the footswitch crapping out after extensive use.

The best muff I've tried has got to be the Metal Muff. Great gain on it, plus it's got the lead boost on it too. Super crunchy!

So I finally got a hold of some sound files and found two possibilities: Either the russian muff and upgrade the pots and jacks and drill a hole in the housing and put a ac adapter in. Or get the seymour duncan fuzz pedal, I was looking for a tighter sound but still having that synthetic tone and found these to fit the bill but I'm still going to wait until I get back to California in a month so I can actually try them out there is not much selection as to my knowledge where I'm going to school. I appreciate everyone's input it really helped.

If you think the usa big muff is harsh than don't bother getting any kind of muff. A boss ds-1 distortion might be what your looking for. It has the right kind of sustain with out making the distortion sound too muddy or crunchy.

I would actually say to check out the new Boss FZ-5 pedal. It's got a setting on it that actually emulates the whole ratted out speaker effect!!! Its so awesome. You play and its all super fuzzy but if you play all hard, it will actually sound like the speaker can't take it and totally tatters out!!! It also has other fuzz settings as well that can emulate the Big Muff. If you have a music shop in your area w/ one, try it out. I fell in love (but not w/ the price tag...).

i used to have the russian muff and i didn;t really like it, and then last year my girf friend bought my the lil big muff and the muff overdrive.

both are extremely great pedals!

i used the muff overdrive as a booster pedal for when an extra noisy part is comming or just aboost during a solo.

they work great together, i mean really really great, but then again i find myself missing the boss od-1 super overdrive.
