You can mess up things, even break the truss rod, if you don't know how to adjust it, so be careful if you're gonna touch that one.
If you put as thick strings on your guitar after changing the bridge as you had before, you don't need to touch the truss rod (if your setup was ok before modification).
I think Roberts advice was pretty good if you want to go on with the TOM, shim the neck and file the saddles.
