I just put a tom on my guitar, and the action (I knew it would happen but i didn't think it would be this dramatic) is really high. Then I tried to set up intonation and as it turn out I've got the saddles on my E & A as far back toward the butt as possible and it is still too sharp.

What can I do to fix it or should I say #### it and put stock-bridge back on?

Go ahead and call me a newb if you have to, but some actual advice would be nice after you get that out of your system.

no man, im just joking.

to get the action back to something normal you will have to shim the neck a bit, then take a nice lil rasp and file down the grooves to match the radius of the neck better.

and as for the intonation you will need to turn the individual saddles around so the flat end is facing the floating bar.

if none of that works, then yes put the original bridge back on, there is really no reason that the mustang bridge needs to be changed. its the jag bridge that is ify.

also the radius of tune-matic is different than the mustang.

I was thinking that too because the action isn't that toward the end of the neck close to the nut.

I'll post pics of it later so you get the idea.

even with the truss rod adjusted i still think it will need to be shimmed

its a fairly common mod and unless you are using a modified tom then you need to shim the neck.

trust me on this, if the neck was fine before, and then you puit the same strings on it and the tom and the action is high, its not the truss rod that needs to be worked.

You can mess up things, even break the truss rod, if you don't know how to adjust it, so be careful if you're gonna touch that one.

If you put as thick strings on your guitar after changing the bridge as you had before, you don't need to touch the truss rod (if your setup was ok before modification).

I think Roberts advice was pretty good if you want to go on with the TOM, shim the neck and file the saddles.
