What's the best replacement bridge for Jaguar?

Hey people,

I know this has been discussed in various threads but after a search on the forums I couldn't seem to find one which encorperated all the possible options for a bridge.

I obtained a Mustang bridge (re-issue) from guitarpartsresource, but I still get quite a bit of buzzing. Is it because I still have .10's?

Which bridge would you guys think is the best available on the market? I'd like as many possible options as possible.

I hear those Schaller T-O-M ones are good quality, but I don't know which one is specifically good for the Jaguar as there were 2 or 3 different models.

I hope I don't get flamed for this thread, please, be nice 😡

Rick is the man to ask. I'd imagine the Mustang bridge would've fixed it.

yeah rick will tell you.

you might want to look into a buzz stop. it'll increase the tension on the bridge and stop the buzzing. have you tried raising the saddles to the max and lowering the bridge?

a mustang bridge is the answer. forget TOMs of whatever brand.

I'd try switching to 11s before you go mental and start throwing bridges about, but if you're desperate, the Mustang one.

he's already got a stang bridge and says it's still buzzing. a tom ain't gonna stop that. he needs to tighten the screws up on his guitar.

depends if you're talking about fret buzz, or the actual threads/rivets that are rattling?

if it's fret buzz, then thicker strings, wrapping all the way round the tuners, add a string tree, make sure action is 2-3mm above 17th fret etc.

if it's bridge rattle, then applying grease to take the play out of the threads, possible wrapping the posts with tape (if the rivets are slightly lose), better general setup etc

just added a tone-pros to my jaguar and it lines up pretty nicely with pickup and the nut. the buzz is gone, and the strings stay in place perfectly. no complaints.

but it only adds more tension behind the nut cos after you tune back to the right pitch the tension is the same. if the tension between bridge and nut is higher then the pitch of the string is higher. with the same gauge strings on the same scale guitar the tension has to be the same to produce the same frequency of vibration (and so pitch).

yeah, i know that. of course the tension of the playing string will be the same when you've tuned it to the same pitch. i'm talking about the tension of the part of the string which leads from the nut to the tuner/string tree. if that part of the string is tighter, then it'll be better for not going out of tune

no, what it is, is that when you hit the string, the part behind the nut is more tense. so it can pull the oscilation of the string tighter. so as not to create so wide a band, therefore not creating as much buzz
