Question on Left Handed Japanese Mustang

I just took delivery of a Lefty Mustang that I ordered from Ishibashi. The transaction was a positive experience, and the guitar looks and plays great.

To my surprise, the guitar arrived with a matching headstock (candy apple red) - which was a great surprise because that's what I wanted, but I thought the Mustangs had a natural finish headstock?

Did I get a neck meant for a Jag or do all Japanese Mustangs come like this?

Fender introduced the Mustang in 1964. 1965 reissues are fairly popular.

In 1968/9 They introduced the 'Competition' Mustang, as well as a regular Mustang, both of which could feature a painted headstock.

Is yours a 1969 reissue, or a Competition reissue?

Fender Japan also makes Mustangs in finishes and headstocks that weren't originally available in the Vintage Fender era.

I think the headstocks are better painted on stangs.

As far as I know, Fender Japan do not make standard run lefty stangs with competition stripes.

you can get anything thru japan

they have every year/ style of mustang with painted and without painted.

If I remember correctly, from the standard '69 lefty re-issues available, the CAR is the only one that comes with matching headstock.

But it looks good - so congrats.

Not with comp stripes. I know about the matching headstocks, but I've yet to find a lefty that came from the factory with stripes.

I check quite regularly 😉
