OK, I'm going to stand against the crowd here.
Fistly, anyone who says that Oasis are a Beatles rip-off then complains that too many people like them because of media hype is an idiot. Yes, they have Beatles influence, but no, they are not, and never will be a rip off. Yes, they have many tributes to the Beatles and their side projects littered through their work, like for example, the intro to "Don't Look Back In Anger" was a sample of John Lennon's "Imagine", this was to mock the press who, after they said they had taken influence from the Beatles, persisted to say it was all a Beatles rip off, at the time, talking about their debut Definately Maybe, which is by far the most non-beatlesish album of theirs.
Now, for the record, I'm not an Oasis fan, I don't mind them, I have a couple of their albums, I still like the first two, and they've had some VERY good songs over the years, (like The Masterplan for example), however, to say they are a rip-off of the Beatles is as narrow minded as saying Nirvana where a rip off of the Sex Pistols.
No-one says Madness where a rip-off of Prince Buster, yet their early works may as well have been a tribute act, they took their name from one of his tracks, their Debut single "the Prince" was about his music and even the title track of their Debut album was a cover of his, as well as featuring the song which they where named after, and of course, the single "The Prince". I certainly don't see that with Definately Maybe.
I agree, it's dangerous for anyone these days to list someone like Nirvana as an influence as instantly they're labled as one of "TeH KurdTz KiDz", and it was the same for Oasis listing The Beatles, but the fact is, it's the music they grew up listening to, so why not?
Oh, and saying Gallagher is an idiot because he hates Fender is simply retarded. He's a gibson/epi player, for whatever reason, be it that he prefers the feel or that he wants to look like John Lennon, he's been playing them for years. So when you've been playing your Fender for years and then find gibson uncomfortable, well the same applies the opposite way, he's been playing Gibson so long, a Fender feels strange and uncomfortable to him.
Rant over.
