So, I've been scouting out eBay for Jag-Stang listings, as I'm interested in selling mine and wanted to determine its fair market value. I've come across something that is really unnerving, though, at least for me.

A lot of sellers are indicating that the 60th Anniversary models are the very first run of Jag-Stangs released (along with serials that start with "U"). I purchased mine as soon as it was available in the US, in 1995, and mine starts with a "T" serial number (earlier than the "U" models, according to the Fender site). And yet some of these people are stating that ALL of the "first edition" Jag-Stangs came with Fender 60th Anniversary and Designed by Kurt Cobain stickers... which in my experience is untrue.

Is anyone else bothered by this misinformation? Or am I just being overly-sensitive?

Whoops - I meant to write the 50th Anniversary edition stockers, not the 60th!

Anyways, I'm going back and forth with this guy - he says his was among the first released, which is true, it was within the 1995-1999 release of Jag-stangs, but his model started with a "U", not a "T". And he's saying that there were none before his batch, because, in his opinion, as the "T's are 1994-1995, and there were none made in 1994, there aren't any "T"s. Urgh!

i don;t think alot of people konw that jap jag-stangs are dated but they are.

and that would kill some of the fuss.

Yeah, that's certainly an option, though I don't want to disassemble the guitar - I just contacted Fender about it to get their official response. I mean, I don't believe either of our guitars are illegitimate in any way, I just think too many people are starting to believe that the 50th Anniversary models were the FIRST Jag-stangs released. And I would hate for my guitar to be undervalued by that.

I don't think 1 year would under value it, seeing as the only diffrence is a sticker. Theres not even a diffrence compared to the later realease. Just a letter on the neck so I wouldn't worry about it.

loosen the strings, take off all the neck screws, shoot some pics.

screw it back on and tune it up, it will take you less than 30 minutes.

it is proof, cold hard proof, if you get an email from fender it will just seem like you wrote it yourself and everyone will think you are a bit crazy.

Pretty much see what other people are listing their 90's JS for. Thats the same price you will get (depending on condition). Year plays very little on the value of the JS

the fact that they aren't made anymore plays are much bigger role. Mine is one of the last made, does that make it anymore or less valuable? I doubt it. Also condition. I've played it maybe 3 times and I ain't even taken the pickguard plastic off yet, nor the little protective coverings offa the pickups.

Speaking of which, if I left the plastic on would it eventually melt or do something undesirable to me JS?

This guy selling was wrong.

The 'T' serial # guitars predated the 'U'. I have a 'U' that was also made in 1995, has the 50th sticker, but I really wouldn't expect to sell it for anything more than any other non-RI models. The sticker is immaterial.

I'm fortunate that this guitar is one of the purchases that has actually gone up on value... but it's not like this thing is going to have me rolling in cash, not for the next 37 years anyway. How knows if I'll even be around long enough to sell it then?
