What is the price of an AV '65 Mustang

hi,i am considering selling my Fender '65 Mustang (cause i want to buy a beautiful comp. '69 Mustang lake placid with matching headstock).

how much is it worth?it is all original,except the paint,it was refinnished by a proffesional 5 years ago,it has a good lookin blue NITRO paint on it.

oh and the pickup covers were replaced,all other parts,incl. the pickups are original.so what you think?the pictures are here:

i'd say 1200.00 would be decent.

considering if everything that is original is in good shape.

if you mean USD,than it's pretty cheap,i think,there are 65' mustangs for 2000 usd sometimes on ebay.

i was thinking 1800usd.

Yeah, but yours has had a refin, I know jack all about vintage guitars, but what I've learned from this forum, is people who want them hate refinishes!

its tru the only ones online that are anywhere near that are two 64's and one of them has the orignial hand tags.

then then next in line are the comp series stangs.

cuz yours is not 100% original i would honestly say 1200.00

becuz, think about it, you are not going to get a collector becuz its not all orginal.

and if you sold it to a player they would want it for a good price.

you might be able to get someone who is a bit unknowledgable to drop more money, but that is alot of money in the first place.

Refinishing a vintage guitar is the absolute worst possible think you can due to damage the resale value. Even worse than changing the pickups.

he has a point, you can always try to find replacement pups and stick them in and say that they are era correct but not original to the guitar, that will at leat entise some sort of collector.

there's no point for telling me that,i didn't do the refin.

but i think that in maybe 20, 50 years in future all the old finishes will be so bad,that everyone will have to refinish his guitar and the price will grow again 😆

na, even if every original 60s finish looks like stevies strat then it will still be un-sltered and original.

the only reason for a re-fin is for aesthics.

yeah..but still the price you are telling is pretty low i think,considering that it is exactly the price of the current Made-in-Japan 65 Mustang reissue.arent the american originals way way better and more expensive?

AV stands for American Vintage(Made in US). In this case it means that it is actually made in 1965.

one more thing:

my bridge plate sais only "Pat.Pend." there are no numbers and the tuners are Klusons,that makes it look like a PRE-CBS Mustang,doesnt it?

but the neck is dated september 65,which was after selling to CBS,and the previous owner still swears it is all original,even if there is no point for lying me now,after i bought it 😲

They still had a lot of parts left over and CBS didn't start making changes to production immediately. So, a lot of guitars that are immediately post-CBS are exactly the same as pre-CBS. I'd say it's more likely to be all original with those features than without.
