Mustang Tremolo Problem

Hi everyone, I am in the early stages of my first build which is a mustang.

I've just primed it and I'm still collecting parts. I just got a mustang tremolo

and when I put it on the body, it doesn't sit flush. The bridge cups and holes

aren't fitting by the slightest amount. Here is a pic of what I am talking about.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

the routes for the spring aren't big enough.

I'll look at that thanks. I doesn't seem to be the depth of the routes though.

Because one hole of the trem fits on a bridge cup while the alignment of the other hole and bridge cup is slightly off. That's what's making it not sit flush.

I didn't say they weren't deep enough, I said they weren't big enough. The small little "v" that the spring attaches to, isn't resting in the route because the route isn't big enough. Break out the router and open the route up in the area closest to the bridge cups.

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

Also, if the trem and the bridge cups aren't lining up, then you'll need to start over.

Furthermore, it IS possible that the trem plate is bent/warped. Is that the case?

I got you. I misunderstood what you meant.

And I don't doubt you know what your doing.

The body I have is a 65 body and this is a mid 60's tremolo.

I thought there wouldn't be an issue of them fitting together.

I posted on another forum to get some more insight and someone

suggested either modifying the bridge cup slightly or the trem hole

or both.

Here are the pictures of the trem from the auction. I don't have a pic of the body on this computer but I can post on later. Thanks.

It seems to me like your bridge cups are positioned a different distance apart from the holes on the plate. I say you just tap it with hammer until it fits over them, it's supposed to be a snug fit.
