xgrascorex Getting into surf guitar lately I decided my old jag stang could yield some surf tones and qualities. Does anyone have any advice on mods to the jag stang to sound and function well as a surf guitar? Thanks!
CROSS Get a seymour duncan humbucker, and put a push pull volume knob in it, so you can convert it to a single coil pickup. Single coils are synonymous with surf guitar sound.
xgrascorex Hello,Thanks for the input.. The push/pull pot would act as a coil split? or ? Anyway, I find that it works well with both pickup selectors in the left position (while looking down at your guitar) it yields a decent surf rock tone. Any other opinions or suggestions I would appreciate it. I figured why not mod my old jagstang out instead of sinking a ton for a jaguar or something else better geared towards surf.
mumblyjoe Make sure if you get a new humbucker, it has alnico magnets in it. Ceramics dont really give a good split sound.Might also be worthwhile changing out the neck pickup to a vintage alnico strat pickup, but humbucker first!
xgrascorex Yeah, I have found that the pickup switches are very useful, definately can get a passable surf tone out of it with out any modifications. However I will still modify this guitar when I get some money. Got a couple of project guitars going at the moment. Thanks for all suggestions.
