hey, I tried using my Blues Driver as a boost pedal(on Fender HDx) and I liked it.

But I plan on using my blues driver a normal pedal.

so... what is a good boost pedal, or pedal for boosting

Word, I use my ODR-S with the gain right down as a volume boost placed after my RAT pedal. It does colour the signal a little, but it actually makes it a bit more smooth and fat- plus there's a load of volume on tap, and you can tweak the sound a bit with the 3-band EQ. Recommended if you're after something cheap and effective.

don't think I can get a Nobels so easily(me living in america and all) but it does sound nice....

do you think the eq would do a good job at boosting the signal? cause it would be nice to just get that for both eq and boost. otherwise I might just go for the EH nano boost.

Yeah, pretty much all EQ pedals have a level slider as well as all the frequency band sliders, so you can get a nice "flat" volume boost (Tom Morello does this), or maybe boost the mids and highs for a bit more cut as well. Plus it can be used as a bog-standard EQ if you want it to be 😁

The Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ is pretty much a Boss GE-7 clone with a mod, so that might be one worth checking out.

I've heared loads of people say the Danno Fish and Chips is better than the Boss EQ as it sounds the same but has less scratchy pots. Haven't used either so I wouldn't know.

I made my own boost pedal, which I keep meaning to post the schematics of, I love it, sounds great.

Hey Al, is there any reason why this wouldn't work properly?

When I turn the pot down a bit in ..uh.. "pot mode", it seems to add more noise to the signal (background hiss, not just pot-turning static)- it's fine with the pot all the way down though. Possibly just crap wires?

It's a schematic for a simple switchable volume pot (when on it reduces rather that boosts). I made it into a feedback loop now anyways, so it doesn't matter 😁

Yeah, as volume boost, that's ideal since obviously that way it's just raising output of the preamp rather than the input to the preamp.

If you want a gain boost, you want it before your distortion source (pedal or overdriven amp).

Yeah, Doog, the hissing you're getting is normal, I built one of those exactly the same and had the smae problem, and at high gain I also have the same with the volume on my guitar? I guess it could be cheap pots and wires, but I dunno. Is it extreem hiss or just very mild and only noticable to the pedantic person holing the guitar (because it's true, I don't know why, but as soon as that guitar is in your hands, suddenly the fine details become noticable when you couldn't hear them when someone else was playing).

I think it's a result of the extra resistance in the circuit.
