Powerchord with a pinky?

I find it strange that people play powerchords with there pinkys. Do any of you guys do?

i play powerchords with my pointer, index and pinky fingers

I dont use my pinky. I just use the index finger and ring finger (with the middle finger for support).

Billie Joe from greenday uses all four fingers and i can never get my head around that, i dont see a point to it but i suppose its personal preferance.

Anyways the frets are so close together on my guitar the powerchords dont sound clear compared to if i didnt use my pinky.

I haven't actually made a powerchord shape for years, I just fret the whole chord and hit the top strings.

Damn, you're right. Never thought of that before. I just prefer having the whole chord to work with rather than just 2 overly distorted notes.

Eh? Powerchords can't be triads, since that requires 3 different notes.

I'll fret the whole chord for root 6 major chords, as that does open up a bit more range and allows me to throw in the plinky notes while strumming, and on root 5 I'll usually use whichever makes the most sense at the time. I don't see any real big reason to be absolutely constant about using two fingers vs. three fingers for a power chord, it's easy either way. Three fingers is nice because then I can throw in open B's and E's, though.

In some blue's scales you need to use your pinky for other notes with a power chord. Of course not everyone is doing a blues scale 24/7 only brad aniox would be cool enough too.

We fret barre chords and just play the top 3 strings.

You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you? I think you mean like a 12-bar blues, where you shift the top note. In which case I don't think those are considered power chords. Anyways, I voted no. I mostly play triads and simply play the top two notes if I want a power chord sound.

I don't have a very precise right hand or very good fret dampening, so I always end up playing an extra note. Something like this:

Definately not. I was under the impression that it was only girls who use thier little finger when playing power chords.
